"He alone, who owns the youth, gains the future." Adolf Hitler

Hitler and the Nazi had a lot to do with the problems at this time. Hitler had a lot against Jews. He sent them to consetration camps. He sent them there just because of what they believed in. it didn't matter how old you were or if you were male or female, you went either way. Technically, he himself did very little to the Jews. But he was the force behind a big amount of terrible things done to the jews, along with anyone else that wasn't perfect enough. He thought that the perfect people had blonde hair and blue eyes, even though he himself doesn't have those trates. He made ghettos for the Jews. These were like mini towns in Germany that kept the Jews from leaving. They would go in and take Jews when they were needed at the concentration camps. Sometimes the person in charge is just as guilty as the perpetrator.

The depression was a big problem for Germany. There was a bad drought that caused a famine. Germany workers went on strike and the governement paid their saleries by making more paper money. This added to the inflation that already started after the war. The German mark then became worthless. By 1923 it took 130 billion marks to equal 1 dollar. Then there was a runaway inflation everywhere. People would use wheel barrels to carry home their pay. For example. A women went into a store but left a basket of money in her car. When she came back, the basket was gone, but all the money was still there. Thongs really turned around for money.

At this time there was a rise in fasicsm. Italy experienced big economic problems after WWI. Inflation went up and industrial and agricultural workers went on strike. Socialissts also spoke of revolution. The middle started to fear a communist take over that has also happened earlier in Russia. Because of all these strikes that were occuring, Mussolini formed bands of nblack-shirted, armed Fascists called squadristi. These groups attacked newespaper and socialist offices. They also used violence to break up strikes. Some people began to follow Mussolini. By 1922, Mussolini's movement was growing fast. He then understood that nationalism was a powerful force. For that he wanted more land for Italy that the people wanted.
